Renaissance Newfoundands (formally Misty Mountain Newfs in New York) is owned and cared for by Jim and Karen Diemer and their daughters, Sarah and Laura. Having enjoyed the love of this breed for the last 30 years of our lives, our dedication, attention to health, and enjoyment of these great dogs is all encompassing.
Renaissance Newfoundlands was established in 1977 with the purchase of Ben, our first Newfoundland. We are a sixty acre hobby farm, located in the rolling hills of upstate New York. Besides Newfoundlands, we also own several pleasure horses. On the farm we raise all of our own organic vegetables and fruits, and our own hay. We are active in the show ring, and also have an interest in obedience work, draft work, and with the installation of a pond on our farm, we will be starting water work with our dogs. Being a small family kennel, we only breed a few carefully planned, quality litters per year. All puppies are born and raised in our house, they are loved by our entire family, and live, day to day, as the center of our household activities.
In choosing a new kennel name for our family in our ongoing quest to exhibit and breed exceptional, healthy, loving dogs we naturally turned towards our roots in music (there were three music majors in our household) and our love of the progressive 70’s English rock band, ‘Renaissance.’ Also, with the addition of NCA mentor and fellow Newfoundland fancier Doreen Beale's exceptional Bacchanal dogs in our breeding program, we feel that we have truly experienced a rebirth. With their stellar temperaments, impeccable health and phenomenal type, we consider ourselves priveledged to share our love and our lives with them.
Our life long knowledge of nutrition, which has been applied to our 26 years of successful dog breeding, has helped us produce extremely healthy, long-lived family companions. Our first Newf Ben lived fifteen healthy, disease free years because of the way he was fed and supplemented. Ever important socialization of our precious babies starts at birth, in our home, where our pups are born and raised. All puppies that we breed are Cardiologist Cleared at Cornell University by Board Certified Cardiologists before placement into their new homes, and all puppies that we breed come from fully tested parents (hips, elbows, hearts and cystinuria).
Our philosophy on raising dogs is very simple. First and foremost, each and every one of our dogs is a family member. We derive incredible joy from this wonderful breed, and feel that every Newfoundland should have a special place in their owners' lives and homes.
Each puppy is given an aptitude test, so we can better match each individual pup with their prospective owners. As we know both our dogs and puppies inherently, we can help you choose which puppy personality would best suit your lifestyle. We offer lifetime Breeder Support, and are never too busy to help by giving advice, or lend a 'listening' ear. We enjoy staying in close contact with each and every person we place a puppy with for the life of their puppy.
We pride ourselves in not only the quality of the dogs we choose to own and show, but in our integrity and honesty in our every-day dealings with the public. Our lives revolve around our wonderful Newfoundlands, and to that end, it is our pleasure to educate and inform anyone interested in this wonderful breed.
We delight in keeping in close contact with our ‘puppy people’, freely giving advice, thoroughly enjoying pictures of our pups in their new homes, and making lasting friendships because of our common interest in the Newfoundland breed.
We offer a comprehensive health guarantee with every puppy we place- provided all nutritional and supplemental requirements, as stated in our contract, are followed implicitly. We also educate prospective adoptive homes about the implications of environment on the structural health of growing Newfoundlands.
Our dogs enjoy a splendid life on our 60 acre estate. Unforested woodlands, rolling meadows and a brook make up the beauty that is our hobby farm. Part of our Newfs’ exercise regimen includes daily walks, romps through snow and splashes in our stream.
We consider ourselves abundantly blessed to have owned and loved this special breed for thirty years, and we want to make sure that the 'Newfie Experience' is a joyful and memorable one for each and every person who adopts a Renaissance Newf!
Besides the Newfies, horses and the land, our lives have been joyously and completely enriched by our two children, Sarah and Laura- without whose help, we could never have accomplished what we have within the Newfoundland breed. By our homeschooling them from K-12, each has had the freedom and individuality to pursue their life's dream. Sarah is an aspiring writer (Already published) who is diligently working towards her Ph.D in Holistic Medicine, and who is also our web designer. Laura is a self taught, aspiring young artist.
