Misty Mountain Newfoundlands was established in 1977 with the purchase of Ben, our first Newfoundland. We are a sixty acre hobby farm, located in the rolling hills of upstate New York. Besides Newfoundlands, we also own several pleasure horses. On the farm we raise all of our own organic vegetables and fruits, and our own hay. We are active in the show ring, and also have an interest in obedience work, draft work, and with the installation of a pond on our farm, we will be starting water work with our dogs. Being a small family kennel, we only breed a few carefully planned, quality litters per year. All puppies are born and raised in our house, they are loved by our entire family, and live, day to day, as the center of our household activities.



Our philosophy on raising dogs is very simple. First and foremost, each and every one of our dogs is a family member. We derive incredible joy from this wonderful breed (As evidenced throughout our many scrapbook pages), and feel that every Newfoundland should have a special place in their owners' lives and homes.

All of our dogs get plenty of fresh air, sunshine and exercise- as for feeding, we feed our dogs as we, ourselves, eat; organic grains, antibiotic-and-hormone-free-range meats, and organic vegetables and fruits. We also supplement with Vitamin C, and other joint supporting supplements daily, and also many immune enhancing supplements. It is not unusual for our dogs to live into their fifteenth year. On the rare occasions we use kibble, we feed Eagle Pack Super Premium Holistic Natural Pet Foods. Our pregnant females follow Dr Belfield's Vitamin C protocol to prevent hip and elbow dysplasia in their puppies. The puppies themselves are supplemented with liquid Vitamin C at a very early age as a preventative. Nothing is spared nor are any corners cut in our quest to produce healthy, sound, long-lived and well socialized puppies. As reputable breeders, we stand behind the quality of the pups we breed and are continually raising the bar for the health of the Newfoundland breed as a whole.



We offer a comprehensive health guarantee with every puppy we place- provided all nutritional and supplemental requirements, as stated in our contract, are followed implicitly. We also educate prospective adoptive homes about the implications of environment on the structural health of growing Newfoundlands.

Our puppies are handled from birth, and are very well socialized. Before leaving our home, they are fully vetted, have had their first series of shots, are heart cleared by a Board Certified Cardiologist at Cornell University, and leave us with a certificate of health. Prospective homes are carefully screened, as we want only the best, permanent loving homes for our pups. All pet puppies are sold on a spay/neuter contract, with a limited AKC registration. Show puppies are sold on their own in-depth contract and are co-owned by us without exception.

Each puppy is given an aptitude test, so we can better match each individual pup with their prospective owners. As we know both our dogs and puppies inherently, we can help you choose which puppy personality would best suit your lifestyle. We offer lifetime Breeder Support, and are never too busy to help by giving advice, or lend a 'listening' ear. We enjoy staying in close contact with each and every person we place a puppy with for the life of their puppy.



In the event that a pup or dog can no longer reside with its family- regardless of age- we require that that puppy/dog be given back to us, so that we may find him/her an appropriate, life-long home.

We consider ourselves abundantly blessed to have owned and loved this special breed for over twenty-five years, and we want to make sure that the 'Newfie Experience' is a joyful and memorable one for each and every person who adopts a Misty Mountain Newf!

Besides the Newfies, horses and the land, our lives have been joyously and completely enriched by our two children, Sarah and Laura- without whose help, we could never have accomplished what we have within the Newfoundland breed. By our homeschooling them from K-12, each has had the freedom and individuality to pursue their life's dream. Sarah is an aspiring writer (Already published) who is diligently working towards her Ph.D in Holistic Medicine, and who is also our web designer. Laura is a self taught, aspiring young artist.
